What is AFT?

What is the Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT)?

The Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) is a holistic emotional release process that combines the therapeutic benefits of essential oils with psychology-based techniques to help individuals clear negative thoughts and emotions. Developed by Dr. Benjamin Perkus, a clinical psychologist and long-time user of essential oils, AFT is designed to gently shift mindset and emotional state, allowing people to move forward with greater confidence, clarity, and purpose. AFT provides a natural, non-invasive method for reducing stress, overcoming fears, and improving mental focus.

Unresolved emotions and limiting beliefs often hinder personal progress. During an AFT session, clients are guided to identify a specific intention or goal, then recall a memory or feeling that seems to stand in the way. As the memory surfaces, a specially chosen combination of Young Living essential oils, referred to as Memory Release Blend (equal parts Lavender, Frankincense, and Stress Away), is inhaled deeply. The scents activate the limbic system in the brain, where emotions and memories are processed, helping to release emotional blocks at a subconscious level.

The AFT experience is gentle yet powerful, with many users reporting a noticeable shift in emotional state after just one session. Aroma Freedom is used by life coaches, therapists, and wellness practitioners, and can also be self-administered with proper training.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, procrastination, grief, or simply feeling stuck, AFT provides a grounded, accessible method to align thoughts and emotions with one’s goals and dreams.
